Making space for the new sluice gate

Work Party 3-4 June 2022

On Friday 3rd a group consisting of John, Dumisani and Moses from Underberg and Peter, Jill and Mwayi up from Gillitts arrived at the mill having collected all the ingredients to pour a concrete slab for the sluice gate installation. John is a very useful chap because he comes complete with all kinds of accessories such as a generator, a large angle grinder, a small angle grinder etc. not to mention of course Dumisani and Moses.

The task was to cut off a section of the large concrete pipe where it emerges from under the road so as to make space for the new sluice gate.

The job took much longer than anticipated, but eventually late on Saturday, after the use of a Jackhammer, the job was done and we began to pour concrete after which we set the Sluice Gate frame in position.
